It’s a long way from Dee Why to Bollywood – but that’s where Deepanshu Dhiman wants to be after being named Mr India Australia.
The 22-year-old scooped the title at a western Sydney event, which will now see him compete against other international pagent winners in Jamacia later this month.
And though he admits he can’t dance, like many Indian stars, he’d love to be in a Bollywood movie like his favourite Bollywood megastar, Aamir Khan.

“In the future I definitely want to do it if the opportunity presents its self. That would be one of the dreams,” he said.

Mr Dhiman scooped Mr India Australia – Touch the Soul Competition’s top title, which celebrates Indian culture and was held in Blacktown.
He beat nine other finalists in categories including fitness, swimwear and formal wear, and scooped the Mr Fitness crown, as well as the overall title.

Now he’ll be one of 70 contestants from around the world to battle for a top title at the world finals of the United Nations Pagaents from 12-19 July.
Mr Dhiman moved to Sydney with his family, incluing brother Lakshay, 18 and parents Bandana and Sanjay, both engineers, seven year ago from Punjab.
The Macquarie University student said he was always encouraged by his family to try and get into modelling – especially as he’s 6 ft 1 ins tall.
When he heard about the pagent the former Narrabeen Sports High student said he thought it was the perfect chance.
“I wanted to represent my country on an international level and this was my opportunity,” he said.

“You had to talk about why you wanted to enter, and I said I just want to inspire my generation to make a positive impact in their communities.”
Mum Bandana said she was proud of her son.
“I can’t explain my happiness,” she said.
