Boost for netball team ahead of Australia tour

f2THE Nasinu-based Grasshoppers Netball Club receives a major boost with the timely sponsors from Fiji Airways and Sports World ahead of their Australian netball tour.

The club has been invited to attend the 2016 Suzuki State Age Championship at the Gold Coast, Queensland, Brisbane,where they will be displaying their netball skills against some of the finest talent in Queensland.

Yesterday, the netters received new sets of sporting gear from Sports World together with a return ticket for one of their star players from Fiji Airways.

Team official Alumeci Sachs thanked the Good Samaritan for their kind assistance in helping their netters to expose their talents against some top netters in Australia.

“We thank Vinod of Sports World likewise for Fiji Airways and New Net for sponsoring the team through their donations,” she said.

“The club will also be doing some interesting educational tours that will contribute to the overall education of the girls.

“Only under-16 grade will be attending the Suzuki State Age Championship of which the Grasshoppers Netball Club is a member of the Nasinu Netball Association to represent Fijian netball.

“As for the return ticket, we thank Fiji Airways who have agreed to sponsor our recipient of the year, 14-year-old Elenoa Gukirewa to compete in this Queensland Netball Invitation.

“Our recipient is the youngest Netball Fiji U21 trialist trying to make her mark to represent Fiji to the World Youth Netball U21 Cup next year and such exposure in Queensland Netball tour will provide her the platform to perform and enhance her skills.

Sachs said the side had been on this tour for the past two years.

She said a lot of hard work, commitment and personal sacrifice had been put into their club initiatives which highlighted their commitment to developing netball in Fiji.

“Our development programs are designed to provide the very basic netball training and structure.”

The team will be accompanied by their coaches and management support team of the club.

The tournament will be held from July 5-11.
