That’s it for another year folks. Here’s the key takeaways:
- Fiji win 21-7 over New Zealand, their fourth title in Hong Kong in five years
- Stretch lead on World Series to 5 points over New Zealand
- England win plate, Argentina bowl, Russia shield
- Hong Kong make qualifier final but lose out narrowly to perennial nemesis Japan
Thanks for tuning in – we’ll be back for the Olympics.
Some reaction from Fiji coach Ben Ryan. Fiji have made 9 finals since he took over and won all 9, says colleague Matt Scott
“It was a tight final and I thought our defence was very good,” he said.
“I think we made the right decisions at the breakdown. I don’t think they were ever going to stop us scoring tries.
“We just needed to stop them scoring and for the majority of the game our defence was very good.”
