\"bank<\/a>Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has said that Bangladesh acts as a \u201cbridge\u201d between South Asia and South East Asia due to its close ties with all neighbour.<\/h5>\n

He was speaking at the ASEAN flag raising ceremony at the Thai embassy on Saturday marking the 48th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.Ali congratulated the ASEAN member countries, and reiterated the importance of working \u201chand in hand for the peace and security of the region\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said Bangladesh had attached \u201cgreat importance\u201d to its relations with the ASEAN countries.<\/p>\n

Member states — Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam \u2013of this regional grouping cover about 9 percent of the world\u2019s population.<\/p>\n

It is based on regional integration through political security, socio-cultural integration, and economic integration.<\/p>\n

Currently as a single entity, ASEAN is the 8th largest economy of the world and is still growing which, the foreign minister says, \u201cshows the inherent strength it possesses\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ali said Bangladesh had given much priority to its relations with all of those countries and already established its resident missions in almost all the ASEAN countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always emphasises on the importance of a strong relationship with the ASEAN countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This was reflected through her several visits to the ASEAN countries in the recent past including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Lao PDR, he said.<\/p>\n

The ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC) had organised the flag raising ceremony.
\nThe Committee consists of eight member countries, which have missions in Dhaka, was officially established on Sep 12 in 2013 in a rare gesture even as Bangladesh is not a \u201cdialogue partner\u201d.<\/p>\n

This means ASEAN grouping gives importance to Bangladesh, according to the foreign ministry.<\/p>\n
