\"Aid\"<\/a>.IT WAS the idea of one man but it was the effort from a group of like-minded people that made it a reality.<\/p>\n

Suraj Shrestha wanted to help his home country of Nepal after it suffered a devastating earthquake earlier this year and with the help of the Capricorn Coast community has raised more than $10,000.<\/p>\n

Amazed by the generosity and kindness his local community, Suraj and the rest of the Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser Group decided to host two more local events.<\/p>\n

The community is invited to join in on a day of beautiful yoga, meditation and traditional Nepalese food on Sunday at the Emu Park Hall.<\/p>\n

Tabla for Tawal is a community concert being held on Thursday, August 13, featuring Brisbane-based musician Dheeraj Shrestha along with D Kazman.<\/p>\n

All proceeds from these events will go towards Nepal Australia Friendship Association to assist in the rebuilding of the village of Tawal.<\/p>\n

Suraj said their initial donation assisted with temporary relief such as shelter and food.<\/p>\n

“This next phase of funding will help with more long-term needs, like rebuilding the school and health clinic and their micro-hydroelectricity plant,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Everybody’s been doing their bit to help and I just want to thank the community for their support, they’ve been really generous.”<\/p>\n

Group member Liz Hansen said the yoga event on Sunday would create a special experience for participants, including singing bowl meditation and\u2002 more.<\/p>\n

Although group members Chara Love and Annette Baker only moved to the coast less than a year ago, they were surprised at the huge amount of community spirit.<\/p>\n

“It’s great to feel like you’re making a difference and that we know this money is going directly to the cause, there’s no admin costs involved,” Annette said.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s a great way to get to know what’s happening in your community by being involved with these kinds of groups,” Chara added.<\/p>\n

The Yoga Day will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 10am-2.30pm, cost $50<\/p>\n

Tabla for Tawal will be held on August 13 from 6.30pm, at Yeppoon Town Hall, entry $20<\/p>\n
