\"brisbane<\/a>Twenty-year-old Tanya Bali knows she doesn\u2019t fit the stick-thin image of Miss Universe but that\u2019s not stopping her from representing Australia at the Miss United Nations pageant this week.<\/p>\n

The law student from Westlake who was born in Chandigarh, India, was recently crowned Miss India Australia and is currently in Jamaica competing in the finals of the United Nations Pageant.<\/p>\n

Ms Bali said she only recently entered the pageant scene and was amazed to be crowned Miss India Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been into singing and acting but not so much pageants,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t one of the skinniest girls in the competition so I think it just shows you don\u2019t have to be stick-thin to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

The third-year Griffith University student said it was \u201ceye opening\u201d how much work went into the event.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a lot of work and very exhausting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lot more than just getting dressed up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Bali, who re-wore her formal dress in the evening wear section of the competition, said she had always been confident and wasn\u2019t too nervous during the contest.<\/p>\n

She said she was determined to finish her law degree but would be open to taking a chance in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s shown me that maybe I can succeed in the entertainment industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll take the chance and see where this leads me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The United Nations Pageant runs until July 19 and aims to identify and showcase the world\u2019s best tourism-cause ambassadors.<\/p>\n
