\"modi<\/a>India, the world\u2019s fourth-biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, will post its post-2020 climate action plan\u00a0\u201cin six weeks\u201d, a leading national daily reported on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia is also set to announce\u00a0its pledge in August, prime minister Tony Abbott confirmed on Monday.<\/p>\n

Countries are delivering carbon-cutting plans to the UN ahead of a global warming agreement expected to be signed in December in Paris.<\/p>\n

Submissions by China, the US, and EU \u2013 the top three emitting blocs \u2013 add pressure on the countries to reveal their intentions\u00a0for the period 2020-30. Now, 56% of global emissions are covered by these \u201cintended nationally determined contributions\u201d (INDCs).<\/p>\n

India<\/strong><\/p>\n

India\u2019s INDC\u00a0will reveal\u00a0targets to make its economy more\u00a0energy efficient as\u00a0the basis of its pledge, according to the\u00a0New Delhi-based Business Standard.<\/p>\n

The government\u2019s joint climate change secretary, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said it was preparing technologies for Indian industry to cut\u00a0the intensity of their emissions, the paper reported.<\/p>\n

India has said it will not declare the year emissions will peak\u00a0in its submission to the UN, unlike China who chose \u201caround 2030\u2033, but that it will be more ambitious than expected.<\/p>\n

Environment minister, Prakash Javadekar, said in comments reported by the Economic Times: \u201cif both finance and technology are provided, I think many countries can take more aggressive actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Australia<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Monday, Australian leader\u00a0Tony Abbott said\u00a0he wouldn\u2019t announce the country\u2019s climate\u00a0pledge until August, when it has been approved by the Coalition party room. Observers of the world\u2019s 13th top emitter had expected its INDC sooner.<\/p>\n

The environment minister, Greg Hunt, has signalled Australia\u2019s post 2020 target will be more ambitious than the current one, which is a 5% cut on 2000 levels by 2020.<\/p>\n

The Climate Council has urged it go further, adopting a cut of 40-60% on 2000 levels for 2030.<\/p>\n

Senator Larissa Waters, deputy leader of the Australian greens said\u00a0the delay in submission and reports the pledge could be as low as 7.25% \u201cforeshadow further embarrassment\u201d at UN talks<\/p>\n
