{"id":549,"date":"2015-06-13T01:31:56","date_gmt":"2015-06-13T01:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.southasiantimes.com.au\/?p=549"},"modified":"2015-06-14T01:48:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T01:48:12","slug":"salt-bridge-major-bollywood-movie-on-indian-immigrants-to-australia-begins-filming-in-canberra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.southasiantimes.com.au\/?p=549","title":{"rendered":"Salt Bridge, major Bollywood movie on Indian immigrants to Australia, begins filming in Canberra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"first\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southasiantimes.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Indian-movie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-550\" src=\"http:\/\/southasiantimes.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Indian-movie-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Indian movie\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/southasiantimes.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Indian-movie-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/southasiantimes.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Indian-movie.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Canberra is the backdrop for a major Bollywood movie, featuring some of India&#8217;s biggest stars.<\/p>\n<p>Indian director Abhijit Deonath decided to film Salt Bridge in his new home town of Canberra due to its landscape and culture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me it&#8217;s just perfect, it gives me everything,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It gives me the interiors, it gives me the cityscape (and) it also gives me the nature not too far from the city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rajeev Khandelwal, one of Bollywood&#8217;s most recognisable leading men, signed on to star in Salt Bridge, which has been described as a social drama.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m playing a guy who migrates to Australia with his family and how he meets this Aussie woman,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Usha Jadhav, another major Bollywood star, also signed on for the film.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was very much attracted to the concept of the film, like it&#8217;s an Indo-Australian venture,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Rajeev Khandelwal said he has grown fond of the national capital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have all the amenities and facilities, but you don&#8217;t find too many people here, and in Mumbai you only find people,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a sea of people so it is a complete contrast but a beautiful contrast,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Local dancers hired to fill Bollywood scenes<\/h2>\n<div class=\"inline-content photo right\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2015-01-06\/caitlin-winter-dancer\/6003038\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Local extra\" src=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/image\/6002990-3x4-340x453.jpg\" alt=\"Canberra dancer Caitlin Winter was delighted to appear as an extra in the Bollywood film, Salt Bridge.\" width=\"340\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a><a class=\"inline-caption\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2015-01-06\/caitlin-winter-dancer\/6003038\"><strong> Photo:<\/strong> Canberra dancer Caitlin Winter was delighted to appear as an extra in the Bollywood film, Salt Bridge. <span class=\"source\">(ABC News: Clarissa Thorpe)<\/span> <\/a><\/div>\n<p>A Canberra-based Bollywood dance school was approached to help supply extras for a dance scene centring on Holi, also known as the festival of colours.<\/p>\n<p>Canberra dancer Catlin Winter was delighted to be part of the action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been doing Bollywood dancing for about a year,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So this is cool, to be involved in a real Bollywood movie.
