\"joky\"<\/a>Australian racing is mourning the death of young jockey Tim Bell, who died overnight in Singapore in a non-racing accident.<\/p>\n

Bell, who was crowned champion Brisbane jockey in the 2013-14 season, took up a short term contract in Singapore recently in a bid to further his career.<\/p>\n

It is understood Singapore police are investigating the circumstances of his death.<\/p>\n

Bell rode his first group 1 winner on Tinto in the Queensland Oaks in the final months of his championship-winning season and then pushed Jim Byrne in last year’s Brisbane title race.<\/p>\n

He was granted a three-month contract in Singapore from mid-September until December 31 while pursuing feature rides during the spring carnival in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

He started his career in northern NSW with respected trainer Sue Grills before making a name for himself in Queensland.<\/p>\n

His last winner came at the Singapore meeting on Sunday when he booted home Lim’s Bullet.<\/p>\n

Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys offered his condolences to Bell’s family, who grew up in Narrabri and did much of his apprentice work with Sue Grills at Tamworth.<\/p>\n

“This is terrible news. Tim’s sudden death has come as a great shock to the entire racing industry,” V’landys said.<\/p>\n

“Tim was not only popular with his peers but also anyone he came in contact with. Tim was a loyal, positive person who had a drive to be successful.”<\/p>\n

“To lose someone so young and with such a gift for riding is simply tragic and devastating. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends<\/p>\n
